Transformation of the German automotive industry continues despite Corona
According to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the automotive sector is experiencing an intensive boost despite the current Corona pandemic. By 2025, the German automotive industry is expected to invest a total of 150 billion euros in promising future technologies, including electromobility and digitization. The industry has already achieved a great deal, is even the European champion in e-mobility and, when it comes to patents in particular, is at the forefront. Germany is also at the forefront in other areas and is actively driving forward the transformation, for example in research and development, in the areas of drive systems, batteries and hybrids, in digitization, autonomous driving and the reduction of exhaust emissions. However, at the same time, Germany’s location conditions are leading to criticism. Labor costs yield burdens and energy costs are too high, broadband internet is in need of improvement and productivity is suffering due to the pronounced bureaucracy and lack of digitization in public administration. Ultimately, the association calls on politicians to take the necessary measures to maintain and strengthen production and employment in Germany.
